IT'S FAIR to say that London Grammar’s Hannah Reid cast a spell on the audience and left them in a trance-like state during their first-ever Bournemouth gig.

The angelically-framed frontwoman had the crowd from the first note of Hey Now and for the next hour she completely commanded the venue.

The band, who have only been performing for a year, made no excuses for their excitement at filling the venue with their ‘own’ fans. Their 12 song set was certainly no smooth big budget production and they’ve definitely not ironed out the kinks. But their sheer honesty and humbleness was really refreshing in an industry with too many huge egos already.

The band’s focal point and saving grace Hannah even went off halfway through for a cup of tea to soothe her throat.

But who could blame her, for just over an hour her complex voice captivated and filled every corner of the 02 Academy.

Only on two occasions did the other two band members take charge of the microphone and when Dot Major (who everyone in the crowd likened to Harry Styles) told the fans that this was ‘the most beautiful venue they’d played all year’, it went down a storm.

It wasn’t until their last song Strong that the audience really got involved and sang along, and then the band came back for an encore of the more up-tempo Metal and Dust.

The songs may have been sleepy and lulled everyone into silence, but it didn’t matter. What we heard was pure beauty. And you couldn’t help but feel there are big things to come for this unassuming singer with the soul- captivating voice.
