AFC Bournemouth's historic promotion to the Premier League is the inspiration behind a new Daily Echo book packed with pictures of Cherries players past and present.

All the key moments in the Cherries' proud history are depicted in 'AFC Bournemouth - The Cherries 1890 to the Premier League,' including giant-killing cup runs, Great Escapes and, of course, promotion celebrations.

The book, which is sponsored by Rockett Plumbing and Heating Supplies, will also rekindle memories of some of the club's best-loved players, including striker Ted MacDougall, Harry Redknapp and loan star Jermain Defoe.

There are also photos showing how the club's Dean Court home has developed over the decades.

In total, the 160-page hardback book contains over 500 amazing photographs, showing how the club started life as Boscombe St John's Lads Institute FC before becoming Boscombe FC in 1899, Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic FC in 1923 and then AFC Bournemouth under manager John Bond.

Highlights include the club's historic cup run of 1956/7, which culminated in a match against Manchester United's 'Busby Babes,' the goal-scoring exploits of 'Supermac,' assisted by Phil Boyer, in the 1970s and the giant-killing of Manchester United in 1984 - acknowledged as one of the greatest FA Cup shocks of all time.

There are wonderful photos of the club's only Wembley appearance after they reached the final of the Auto Windshield Trophy in 1998 and pictures recalling some of the more unusual moments in the club's history - George Best's handful of appearances, Jermain Defoe scoring 10 in a row and James Hayter's 140-second hat-trick.

Andy Martin, acting editor of the Daily Echo Bournemouth, said: "Now is an amazing time to be an AFC Bournemouth fan, with Eddie Howe leading the team to heights that no-one would ever have thought possible.

"This book celebrates that success but also looks back at the club's history and some of the tough times the club has gone through. It is a great souvenir for fans as the club enjoys its first season in football's top flight."

The book, which contains a foreword by Eddie Howe, will soon be available to buy at £14.95 from the Daily Echo offices in Bournemouth and Swanage and a number of local book stores. To pre-order a copy telephone 01202 292250 or email newspapersales@bournemouthecho.co.uk.
