PLANS to improve an area of Bournemouth town centre are being put forward.

Bournemouth Borough Council wants residents, workers, businesses and visitors to have their say on proposals that it says it has worked up with input from businesses and landowners.

They have now been set out in a draft plan to address current issues and attract investment, the council says.

Ideas include improving the streets and spaces, involving businesses and organisations in business events and using technology better and promoting the use of vacant and derelict sites for the development of offices and teaching space.

Cllr John Beesley, leader of Bournemouth council, said: “The Lansdowne is a key town centre location, which has exciting potential for growth, both in terms of existing businesses to grow and encouraging new businesses to make Bournemouth their choice of location.

"It is also important to recognise that we have a number of world class education institutions in this area, which deserve a world class environment to operate in.

“Many of the proposed projects are long term and ambitious, so we will be looking to work in partnership with businesses and organisations, both locally and further afield. The council will also bid for government and EU funding to help make our ideas a reality.”

Alternatively, the plans can be viewed at the borough's libraries and at the council’s Customer Service Centre at the Town Hall.

The closing date for the consultation is Monday, September 28.

A drop-in event is being held on Wednesday, September 23, giving people the chance to ask questions about the ideas.

It will take place at the Redweb offices at 35 Holdenhurst Road, BH8 8EJ, in Lansdowne between midday-6pm that day.

All are welcome and staff will be available to provide information and answer questions.

There will be a full report and run-down of the proposals in Wednesday's Echo.
