FORMER MP Annette Brooke has been made a Dame at an investiture held at Windsor Castle.

Infront of husband Mike, daughter Eleanor and seven-year-old granddaughter Cheythani, she was presented with the honour by the Duke of Cambridge, for political and public service.

"I can't tell you how honoured and privileged I feel," said The Right Honourable Dame Annette Brooke.

Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole for 14 years, she was the longest serving female Lib Dem MP and was put forward for the honour in the dissolution list by former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Before seeking election as an MP she was a councillor on Borough of Poole, representing Broadstone, and was made an OBE in the 2013 New Year's Honours list.

"My family are very proud of me - they are over the moon," she said when the honour was made public.
