CUTTING remarks to the audience, singing, and generally playing the fool.
That's how Rob Brydon, star of Gavin and Stacey and presenter of Would I Lie To You?, entertained the packed crowd during the Bournemouth stop of his I Am Standing Up tour.
He hasn't played at venues up and down the country since 2009, but this can only mean that he brought his best material to this comedy night.
Rob branded audience member as a hipster and made this man, Steve, the subject of an off-the-cuff song. For all his entertaining lines and gags, Rob has a hugely professional singing voice and showed it off while playing the guitar. Not many comedians do that during their show.
Also, I've got to hand it to him. The man knows how to handle a heckler, which every comedy show I've been to has had. Incase you're wondering, Rob asked the person's name, also called Steve, branded them an attention seeker, gave his sympathy to Steve's wife, and then carried on with the show.
He also took questions from the audience, but soon added that he often gets asked if he still speaks to James Corden, which he said is a thinly veiled attempt to point out how well the Gavin and Stacey writer and co-star is doing.
He is the king of impressions, rolling out a host of names including Sir Paul McCartney, Sean Connery, and for fear of spoiling the show, I'll say that one of the most memorable parts involved him pretending to be Elvis.
It was a wonderful evening of entertainment, and one that I'd like to think shows the Pavilion theatre off at its best.
