TREVOR Senior has joined Dorchester Town’s management team and will work alongside manager Craig Laird next season.

Senior started his career at the Magpies before moving to join Portsmouth in 1981.

After that he enjoyed spells with clubs including Reading, Middlesbrough and Watford, before starting forging a managerial career at club’s including Weymouth and Bridport.

Speaking of his return, Senior said: “I’m delighted to be back involved down there.

“It’s been a few years since I’ve been there but it’s good to be back and I’m looking forward to working with Craig (Laird) and Stuart (Heath) in the coming season.

“We haven’t discussed a title but I’m just an assistant to Craig on the playing side, and I’m going to hopefully link up with the local schools.
“I’m a sports coach around the local schools so have a lot of contacts and I’ll be trying to get into the community and helping those who are already doing that.

“I feel I can offer something both on the playing side, but off the field as well.

“It’s something that Craig and I have spoken about for quite a few years. I know Craig from my Bridgwater days, and I was really impressed with his coaching and he was bringing a lot of youngsters through, so I always fancied working with him at some stage.

“From my point of view it’s a good time to come in. Last season the team went right to the last game of the season to stave off relegation, which was a shame, but Craig’s had a chance to look at the players and my role is to introduce a few more local players into the set-up.

"I  think  there  are  a few more players locally that are good enough to play for the club, and I’ve already started sounding out a few to come down in pre-season to show what they can do.”

Speaking of Senior’s potential arrival earlier this week, Stuart Heath said: “He’s got fantastic experience, he’s probably got quadruple the number of years which I’ve got in the game in terms of coaching and management, so that experience would be really valuable.

“He’s a good guy, I’ve known Trevor for a number of years now and I feel that he’s got a real affinity for Dorchester which is important, and I think he would be a great addition.”

n The club have also confirmed that John Vance, Gary Bowles, Phil Ormrod, Ollie Davis, Ollie Griggs and Jason Brookes have all agreed terms and will remain with the Magpies next season, while goalkeeper Shane Murphy has agreed to join AFC Totton.
