A FUN-FILLED summer beckons for Bournemouth visitors and residents alike, with a variety of festivals and events announced for the coming months.

The calendar begins on June 11 with the Bournemouth Race for Life and the Jazz by the Sea Festival with live performances across Bournemouth and Poole from June 11 to 17.

Foodies will enjoy the Bournemouth Food & Drink Festival from June 16 to 25, while fitness fans can look forward to British Beach Rugby on June 17 which welcomes teams of men and women worldwide to play on the sands.

The vintage-themed Southbourne Shake and Stir returns with evening events on June 29 and 30 and more live entertainment and music with local food and drink, trade stalls and classic cars on July 1 and 2.

A weekend of fun and frolics are planned when the popular Bourne Free (Bournemouth's Pride Festival) takes place from June 30 to July 2 with a superhero theme.

Beach Netball returns to Boscombe Beach on July 1 and the Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim is on July 16, when participants brave the English Channel in a 1.4 mile open water challenge.

Wednesday, August 2 marks the start of the Candlelight Procession, when individuals can become part of one of Bournemouth’s oldest traditions and take the candlelit walk in the dusk from the Lower Gardens to Pier Approach.

OnStage live music acts will be playing at Pier Approach from August 4 to 12, and Olly Murs performs at Kings Park on August 5 as part of his summer tour of outdoor venues.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra makes a return to Meyrick Park with Proms in the Park from August 11 to 13, while the Luna Cinema will be at the Waterfront, Pier Approach on August 18, 19 and 20.

Every Friday during August there will be fireworks at the seafront, and the highlight of the summer calendar is the tenth anniversary of the award-winning Bournemouth Air Festival, which runs from August 31 to September 3.
