THE Weymouth Volleyball League, sponsored by the Ghurkha restaurant, starts up again on Tuesday, September 26.

Last year’s Division One champions, Parkers, will be looking to retain their title after keeping a good number of their players including ex-Scotland international Sean Hendry.

Portland Prison will be looking to push them with the experience of Ryan Stout and Terry Oldrid coming to the fore.

Other teams who will feel they may have a chance include CSSC Wildcats and Weatherbury Warriors A who have strengthened with the acquisition of young up-and-coming players Sam Groom and Liam Tewkesbury.

Outside bets will be on Old Spa Legacy who will be looking to build on what they achieved last year in their inaugural season.

Further down the leagues, SYNT and Weatherbury Warriors B will be looking to have solid seasons, each having reshuffles to their squads in the close season.

Renegades will once again be led by Sue Neate whilst Ultra Ballers, Team ASM and CSSC Meerkats will all hope to improve on last season’s placings.

The league this year brings a new format. At last year’s AGM it was decided a new system would be trialled to try and make the season more interesting but also to try and make sure people play against their own level more frequently.

There will therefore be three divisions with relegation and promotion within the season.

Teams across all three divisions will have to stay on the ball to ensure they play where they think they belong.

The various cups and tournaments will run throughout the year culminating in the league cup final in March. The charity tournament which sees scratch teams drawn out of a hat will remain after the success it was in its first year last time out.

Sponsors for tournaments/cups are being sought and if any local business wishes to sponsor or offer prizes then contact Weymouth Volleyball Club by filling out a contact us form on the website indoorvolleyballweymouth.wordpress.com
