THE owner of two doberman dogs that attacked a young mum after jumping into her back garden and killing her pet cat has agreed to ‘fully cooperate’ with public health officials.

The Daily Echo reported, at the weekend, how Amy Hardware, of Severn Road, Tricketts Cross, fought off the two dogs with the help of a passerby as her two-year-old son watched on.

The animals had jumped over a six-foot garden fence to launch the attack on Amy’s cat, Fizz, which was killed during the incident.

Just days later, another resident of the same road, Stephanie Brewer, contacted the Echo to say her cat, Peanut, had been approached by one of the dogs.

Stephanie, also of Severn Road, Trickett’s Cross, told the Echo: “On Sunday, I was in the garden and I heard this awful noise, then I saw my cat up on top of the fence. I ran and opened the gate and there was a big dog out there. I managed to shoo it away - then another dog, that looked the same, came around the corner as well.

“The first one was trying to attack my cat, but luckily I managed to chase him off.”

While numerous reports of attacks on the estate have emerged on social media, Christchurch and East Dorset Council public health and protection team confirmed, yesterday, that they’ve only received one complaint of any attack identifying the dogs - the original complaint from Amy Hardware.

Another complainant came forward on Tuesday, reporting his cat was attacked six weeks ago - but this incident was not witnessed by him.

Sean Whitney, Public Health and Protection Manager, Christchurch and East Dorset Councils, said: “The owner of the two dogs has fully co-operated with our investigation and was extremely apologetic.

“Until we spoke to him he was unaware of the situation but understands the gravity of the incident and has agreed to put in place a number of measures.”

Measures agreed include work to his garden fence, an agreement to seek advice for dog behaviour, ensuring the dogs are on a short lead in residential areas and only let off the lead in large open spaces wearing box muzzles.

Mr Whitney added: “We are aware of a number of comments circulating on social media and would ask that residents contact us on 01202 795185 if they wish to register a formal complaint as we can then carry out a full investigation.”
