DORCHESTER 62

SWANAGE & WAREHAM A 0

FOR a game expected to be a close fought physical game, county town fans could be excused for pinching themselves when Dorchester secured a bonus point 25 minutes into the clash.

From the kick-off, Dorchester received the ball and saw Harry Wheeler go over in the corner after only two minutes.

Just two minutes later, following a strong Dorchester scrum, James Baker found himself on a run to the line rounding three Swanage players to score.

Another kick-off fielded by full-back Jamie Morgan saw him kick forward, Alex Peel made a great break and Matt Fry completed the move.

Steve Tucker then ran through the centre of the Swans' defence and Dave Clarke touched down under the posts, Baker converted and Dorchester were 26-0 up and had secured the bonus point.

A neck injury to a Swanage forward then caused the game to be moved to another pitch as the player was treated.

This gave the good crowd a chance to draw breath and potentially the Swans time to regroup.

A second try before half-time for Matt Fry saw Dorchester 33-0 up and looking in charge.

Rich Bament clearly told his players not to ease up as they ran out for the second half and Morgan headed on another run to the corner but came up short, however, support from Lee King and Tucker saw Dorchester strike again.

Then followed another Baker run on the wing, this time eluding four tacklers and scoring under the posts.

Dorchester were now in total control and looking like they could score from anywhere on the park.

Following a huge tackle and turnover from King, Morgan scored another out wide which was converted putting Dorchester more than 50 points to the good.

Dorchester then added another try but the Swans didn’t want to go down without scoring.

Sustained pressure saw them run three penalties from in front of the posts but they failed to breach Dorchester’s defence, Wheeler making a vital try-saving tackle.

Dorchester were not yet done and Fry ran in his third try at the end of the game seeing Dorchester past the 60-point mark.

Given recent tight games this was just the tonic the players needed to boost confidence and increase the hunger for more wins. With young players coming through the ranks such as Harry Wheeler and Peel, both looking assured in their positions, the squad needs to remain focused and continue to develop as a unit.

Dorchester’s Copper Street Costa Coffee man of the match was Matt Fry for his hat-trick of tries and a strong running game.
