THERE was a low turnout for Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club's men's October Medal on Sunday, writes Peter Crowter.

The best score of the day came from Division One with Gary Edwardes the only man with a sub-70 score carding a nett 69 earning him a one-shot handicap cut.

Second in that division with a nett 70 and also the lowest gross was Steve Crabbe.

Division Two seemed to be less comfortable with the conditions and the top score there was a nett 75 scored by Don McAllister.

Division Three did better and Andy Webb was the top man there with a nett 71.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 Gary Edwardes (78-9=69), 2 Steve Crabb (77-7=70), 3 Michael A Thompson (83-12=71).

Division Two: 1 Don McAllister (93-18=75), 2 (acb) Geoff Joy (96-18=78), 3 Jon Legg-Bagg (91-13=78).

Division Three 1 Andy Webb (92-21=71), 2 Stephen Battrick (100-28=72), 3 Tony Colborne (95-22=73).

The Midweek Medal was won by Bryn Dare scoring 98-17+81.

Veterans' Section

THE Thursday competition was the Over-70s' Cup, a Stableford for all vet members but, if you are a youngster in your 60s you do not qualify as a potential cup winner.

Appropriately, the winner of the cup also carded the best score of the day and that was Howard Bonfield (16) with 39 points.

Raymond Southcombe (16) was in third place with 36 points and John Harper (25) fifth with 35 points.

There were two youngsters among the prize-winners – Peter Marshall (9) who finished second with 37 points and Richard Parry (21) who was fourth after countback with 35 points.

Ladies' Section

Two competitions were played for on Tuesday the one a non-qualifier Stableford the other the Daily Mail Foursomes, writes Lyn Hargrave.

The Daily Mail Foursomes is a national competition with Sally Woolmington and Carole Brown going forward to play the next round after they bagged 31 points.

Second were Nicky Stone and Lyn Jessop (26pts).

In the Stableford, Jane White finished first with 39 points with Helen Campbell second on 28.
