FOODIES enjoyed Poole’s first vegan fair at Lighthouse at the weekend.

Thousands of people passed through the doors on Sunday and browsed around 60 stalls of animal-friendly fare.

A diverse range of vegan products was available to buy and sample including cakes, candles, body products, artisan chocolate, raw treats, hot food, clothing, cosmetics, and jewellery.

Visitors also collected recipes and heard presentations from local experts.

Exhibitors included Barbara’s Kitchen, Kate’s Dairy Free Cakes, Mr Lees Pure Foods, Mr Nice Pie, Oxfords Bakery, Meatfree Martha, Purple Nanny, Sukha Lounge, Lush, Dorset Wildlife Trust and Eden Perfumes.

Organiser Lizzi Shaw, of Dorset Vegan, said: “Poole is typically not as vegan-friendly as Bournemouth. I’m hoping this event has opened a few eyes and attracted some different people through the doors.

“For me, it’s very much about promoting veganism and not trying to convert people. It’s just about showing people what’s out there, giving them information if they want it, and making sure people have a good day out and eat as much cake as they like, if that’s what they want.”
