TWO rail workers have reportedly been suspended following complaints staff were bullied during a recent strike.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) staged two days of industrial action in a bitter dispute over the role of guards and driver-only trains.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway’s (SWR) said the company was investigating after claims that guards at Bournemouth train crew depot who worked during the strike had experienced “bullying, intimidation and harassment” from those who protested.

“We respect the right of RMT members to take strike action, but equally, we expect those who choose to strike to respect other people’s right to work, and we are fully supporting those who choose to do so,” the spokesperson said.

“It is regrettable that RMT’s insistence for strike action forces our staff to take a position. This can be a hugely traumatic time, especially if some of our staff want to carry on as usual. We will not hesitate to take action if we learn of any perceived bullying, harassment or intimidation.”

A spokesperson for RMT has not yet responded to the Daily Echo's request for comment.
