DORCHESTER SPORTS 7

BLANDFORD UNITED 1

DORCHESTER Sports are through to the quarter-finals of the Dorset Senior Trophy after thrashing Blandford United 7-1 at the Avenue Stadium.

The afternoon started badly for Sports and it could have been a different story for the visitors as they won and missed an early penalty in the eighth minute.

The spot-kick was awarded when Sports’ Dan Peart mistimed his tackle on Mark Ford but the striker’s penalty was well saved by Sami Tuner in the Sports’ goal.

The hosts then stepped up their game and got the reward when Will Turland slotted past Ben Robbins after a clever pass from Jamie Samways.

Dorchester then doubled their lead when a Samways’ screamer flew past Robbins from 20 yards and Turland added a third when he clipped the ball over the advancing keeper on 30 minutes.

The home side were now flying and looked like scoring every time they went forward.

Rich Beasley slotted a penalty for the fourth goal and Cormac Lochrie scored from close range from a Samways’ corner just before the break to give Sports a commanding 5-0 lead at half-time.

Sports scored two further goals in the second half as captain Jamie Symes scored a direct free-kick from 20 yards and Beasley completed his brace with a powerful shot into the top corner.

Beasley was denied a hat-trick when his shot hit a post and Ford had time to tap in from close range towards the end of the game for Blandford as Sports comfortably progressed into the quarter-finals.

Sports’ manager Ashley James said: This was another good win, we are pleased to go through to the next round, it keeps the confidence and morale high.

“It was another really good free-flowing performance, we scored some really good goals.

“We were 5-0 up at half-time which is again, really pleasing that we are starting well. We’re really just looking forward now to Holt on Saturday in the league which is a massive game for us.”

The quarter-final will be played on Saturday, January 6 as Sports travel to Westland Reserves.

Top of the table Dorchester Sports are next in action when they face seventh-placed Holt United in the Dorset Premier League, who are four points behind Sports but have three games in hand.
