CHICKERELL UNITED 3

PARLEY SPORTS 4

CHICKERELL United exited the Dorset Senior Trophy at the third round stage despite a good performance after going 3-0 down in 20 minutes.

A Clayton Heath brace saw the home side get back into the match after 50 minutes before Parley extended their lead.

An 80th minute goal from Matt Harvey set up a grandstand finish where Greg Collins nearly made the breakthrough but clashed with the goalkeeper and was injured.

Chickerell had to play their 16-year-old third-team keeper Aidan Fryer due to injuries to the reserve team and regular keeper Ian Bickerstaff, while Steve Welch was also unavailable.

Parley took the lead in the sixth minute and extended their lead in the 15th and 20th min- utes.

The second goal came after they had played some great football down the left-hand side before crossing the ball in which was met with a header.

After 20 minutes, a through ball to the Parley striker saw him slot past Fryer in the Chickerell goal.

The home side grabbed a goal just before half-time with a superb strike from Heath just outside the box on the left-hand side.

The Chickens came out well in the second half and, after 50 minutes, Heath scored with another superb shot from 15 yards out into the bottom corner to make it 3-2.

Chickens’ boss Shaun Murphy said: “Our tails were up then, it was soon to be Chickerell attack after attack after attack which did leave us a bit vulnerable on the counter attack.”

A great cross from a counter attack in the 65th minute led to Parley regaining a two-goal cushion with a header over the keeper.

On 80 minutes, Harvey notched another goal for Chickerell with a header from a Collins throw.

The final minutes saw Chickerell attack and try to break through but they could not equalise.

Murphy said: “All the lads were superb, especially after going 3-0 down. I thought it could be any scoreline after that.

“We couldn’t have reacted any better if you ask me, we had a lot of youngsters and they were very nervous but they grew into the game fantastically.”

“After the third goal we all rallied together and it was all us after that.”

Chickerell are next in action on Saturday in the Dorset Senior League away at Portland United Reserves.
