WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley and assistant-manager Paul Maitland were disappointed to see their Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division match away at Dunstable postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The match was one of three matches in the league to be postponed with clashes at Redditch United and Chesham United also called off due to the weather.

Molesley said: “It’s always disappointing to have a game called off but it is out of our control and there’s nothing you can do.

The Terras instead had a training session in preparation for their match at Banbury United on Saturday.

Molesley said: “It is always stark consolation for the lads really: they are prepared and ready to go, that is why we train in the week so we are ready for the game.”

Molesley was happy with the training session, saying: “I am pleased that we haven’t wasted the day. I felt we managed to get some good work out of the lads.”

“We are pleased about that, I think that is the only good thing to come out of it really.”

Weymouth found out at half past eight on Saturday morning and Maitland said that the players were disappointed.

The postponement does mean that some players will be able to rest, with Maitland pointing out that the recently returned duo of Calvin Brooks and Brandon Goodship will benefit from the rest.

Molesley said: “It gives us a chance to do some good work on the training field, rest a few people up, strengthen a few people up who are on the way back.”

The Terras’ match at Royston Town on Tuesday December 19 was also postponed due to their progression in the Hertfordshire Senior County Cup Second Round and both matches are yet to be rescheduled.

The postponements mean the Terras were scheduled to have three on the bounce but now only have one.

As a result of the two matches being delayed Mark Cooper will be unable to serve his three match suspension that he picked up in the 1-0 home win against Chesham United before the Boxing Day derby against Dorchester Town, which will be the third of those matches.

Maitland said it was unfortunate that Cooper will miss the game but pointed out that there is nothing they can do about it.

Maitland said: “We are fortunate that we have got some good players in the full back area with the players that can fit in there so we are not under pressure there.”

Molesley isn’t worried saying: “Most of our home games are usually on, we have got a good home pitch, usually if our games are called off at home most of the other games will get called off as well so I’m sure it will even itself out.”

The side will not be distracted by the postponement of the match, as Molesley said: “We won’t lose focus we will just carry on and the focus is on the next game on Saturday.”

Weymouth are next in action away at Banbury United on Saturday, with their last home game at the Bob Lucas Stadium before Christmas coming against Redditch United the week after.
