THE town council has budgeted more than £7,300 for D-Day celebrations in Christchurch.

Christchurch Town Council’s community committee discussed the 80th anniversary event plans at this month’s meeting.

Members received a report on the proposed celebrations, which aimed to be “meaningful, respectful, fun, and educational”, while also “highlighting Christchurch’s pivotal role during the Second World War”.

The event is set to take place at Christchurch Quay, and will utilise the Bandstand and feature artists and traders.

The community engagement officer shared details about the planned schedule, emphasising the town council's collaboration with local businesses, schools, and various organisations for the preparation of the event.

It was then decided that a professional event management company would be appointed, and the committee agreed to the budget costs of £7,360 using the 2024/25 events budget.
