ROADWORKS causing major delays in Bournemouth and Poole are expected to come to an end soon.

Temporary traffic lights in Wallisdown Road have been causing delays of up to 45 minutes in the surrounding area.

Workmen have been carrying out emergency gas work at the junction with Alton Road, on the Bournemouth side of the road, since Monday.

But while the work is now completed, a spokeswoman for SSE could not give a specific time or date when the patching up of the road would be completed.

Bournemouth Echo: Traffic in Wallisdown Road

The spokeswoman said: "We’ve been carrying out essential emergency repairs to our gas network in Wallisdown Road.

"Our repairs are now completed and we are working to reinstate the road surface where we’ve been working.

"The two-way temporary traffic lights will remain in place until the road surface has been fully reinstated and given time to set.

"To reduce further disruption and avoid three-way temporary traffic lights in the road, Alton Road is closed at its junction with Wallisdown Road."
