A BRIDGE over the River Stour will reopen a day earlier than expected.

Work for essential maintenance along Tuckton Bridge, linking Southbourne and Christchurch, ended on Thursday evening.

The work, which started on March 18, was originally expected to last until Saturday, March 23.

Vehicles will be able to use the bridge on Friday evening, March 22.

Drainage systems, vegetation and weeds were removed as part of the work. Workmen also jet washed the parapets.

Meanwhile, an inspection of the bridge's external face using a specialist access vehicle was also done.

Cllr Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for the environment and energy, said the maintenance would ensure the bridge’s “continued longevity.

Meanwhile, Sopley Bridge in Hurn is also open after maintenance and resurfacing work as well as Poole Bridge, which reopens this afternoon.
