A FORMER bank has gone for good after residents noticed the boarded-up site in Poole.

Barclays Bank announced it would be closing its Poole branch in High Street in December 2023 with its doors officially closing on March 8, 2024.

Poole residents have noticed two weeks after its closure that work appears to be taking place at the site.

The former bank is boarded up and surrounded with scaffolding on the lower level.

However, a design and access statement submitted to BCP Council applies for the decommission of Barclays Bank.

It proposes work to remove external signage, branding, branch nameplate, CCTV camera and signage, ADT alarm box, opening hour vinyl and external ATM.

It also applies to replace existing window’s glazing with new to match the existing.

The statement said: “The proposed works are intended to return the building to pre-Barclays occupation as much as it is possible.”

This also includes removal of fixtures and counters within the building.

The bank closed after finding just 39 residents regularly used the brank as the only way to do their banking.

It also found in 2022, 93 per cent of people using the branch did so via its app, online and on the phone.

There are currently no applications on the BCP planning portal for future use of the site.
