BRIDPORT manager Chris Herbst expects South West Peninsula League Premier East bottom side Dartmouth to attack the Bees on Saturday (3pm) at St Mary’s Field.

Heading into their final home game of the 2023/24 season, and penultimate fixture overall, Bridport still have a slim chance of finishing second to increase the likelihood of FA Cup qualification.

They must ideally win on Saturday and then defeat Axminster at Tiger Way on Tuesday (7.30pm), while hoping for slip-ups from Crediton, Okehampton and Bovey Tracey.

This weekend they come up against a Darts side who have only taken seven points from 30 matches.

Herbst told the Bridport News: “Dartmouth will come here and they’ll be looking at us thinking they can have a go.

“If we have the wrong mentality we’ll lose the game, I can guarantee. I’ve been saying all season, when we play all right like Stoke Gabriel we’ll be fine and our footballing ability will be better.

“I’m not setting up for anything other than a battle. We had a difficult game down their place, it was 4-2 and we were 2-1 down.”

Addressing Bridport’s occasional problems with complacency, Herbst said: “Believe me, I’m fed up with it.

“We can go and churn out such good performances and then we turn up (and lose).

“Last Saturday when we played at home we got absolutely turned over by Okehampton and we’ve got to put that right for the home fans.”

Jordon Scadding remains unavailable due to long-term travelling, so Jason Hutchings will continue in goal.

Will Gape is available, while James Cox and Brayden Jones come into contention after missing Monday’s 3-2 win over Honiton Town through work commitments.
