THIS is the first picture of the new surf reef currently under construction off Boscombe Pier, courtesy of Gary Ellson from Bournemouth Helicopters.
The aerial shot clearly shows the bottom layer of the reef on the seabed. New Zealand-based contractor ASR will be returning next month to fit the final layer of Europe's first artificial surf reef.
Despite spiralling costs and delays, ASR bosses have pledged that the £3 million attraction, part of the Boscombe seafront re-development scheme, will be completed by the end of August.
Subject to weather conditions surfers should be riding the first waves this autumn.
