A bumper Summertime in the South season offering more than 60 free family events has been launched in Poole.

The largest such programme in the south will include fabulous fireworks, thrilling watersports, classic cars and rampaging pirates.

“With events on the water, the beaches, the parks and the Quay, Wave 105 Summertime in the South has the best mix of events in the south and celebrates everything that makes Poole such a fabulous location,” said Martin Ball, managing director of Wave 105.

As well as the popular Summer Breeze fireworks on Thursdays in July in Poole Quay and the beach in August, there is the Street Arts Festival and Mini Steam on the Quay in May.

The popular Harry Paye Charity Day bursts onto the streets on June 18 with Poole Afloat, Summertime in the South kicked off 10-months of special events in February with Rallye Sunseeker and in April Coles Miller Dream Machines roared into town for 26-weeks of bikes on the quay.

From two wheels to four Rockley Park Quay for My Car takes to the quay every Friday night with mouth-watering displays of cars and Poole Castle Cover Pirates speedway blasts around Poole Stadium.

Summer Breeze, sponsored by Breeze Volkswagen, brings a taste of the Mediterranean to Poole Quay every Thursday through July, decamping to Summer Breeze on the Beach in August.

“There is no better way to spend the summer and we are delighted to support such a key part of Poole’s fantastic summer events programme,” said John Corderoy, managing director of Breeze Volkswagen.

There is much else going on throughout the summer from the RNLI HQ open days on July 9-10, British Beach Polo Championships on July 8-9, Sandbanks Beach Volleyball Festival on July 16-17 and Poole Windfest on September 9-11 and Summer Breeze ends with the November 5 firework spectacular.

“Poole has so much to offer as a destination with one of the main draws the best free events programme taking place this summer in the south,” said Bruce Grant-Braham, Poole Tourism chairman.

“None of it would be possible without the support of our fantastic sponsors who continue to show real confidence in tourism in Poole,” he added.
