HOLIDAYMAKERS will get more than just stunning coastline, sandcastles and ice creams when they visit Bournemouth promenade on Saturday afternoon as an alternative seafront trail promises to intrigue beachgoers with dance, performance and theatre snippets inspired by sea.

Starting from Pavilion Dance at 2pm and 4.30pm, Seasaw is a free walk that is punctuated by performances, lasting 70 minutes.

Artistic director, Maresa von Stockert from the dance theatre company Tilted Productions explains: “It’s a trail with ten to 12 performance pieces that use dance and physical theatre. We didn’t know what the public would make of it, but passers-by always join in as we go.

“It’s free and there’s normally a lot more people following us by the end of the walk. It’s interesting to see what happens when you have something so accessible, outdoors and free,” says Maresa.

Seasaw aims to inspire what the sea and its shores mean to the public, as well as highlight the environment.

“It’s inspired by the relationship between humans and water. It may evoke childhood memories of holidays by the sea.

“It doesn’t just entertain but evokes current environmental issues water pollution and global warming,” added Maresa.

“It’s been nice being in Bournemouth, as we’ve been to many different beaches along England and internationally.

“Bournemouth beach is the perfect setting with a beautiful seafront and sandy beach.”

Seasaw forms a part of the Pavilion Dance Summer Spectacular, which has events running until September 3 and includes free dancing sessions on the national dance centre’s beautiful terraces, which overlook the gardens and seafront.
