A POLICE officer has spoken out after three young men were jailed for “one of the most violent” assaults he has seen.
Tyrone Zimmer, 19, was sentenced to 12 months in a young offender institution earlier this week for his part in an attack that broke a man’s jaw.
Friends Curtis Sanderson and Paul Dollery, both 19, have been locked up for 14 and 16 months respectively for the drunken assault near Horseshoe Common last November.
The trio followed Carlos Neuenschwander and his pals on a night out before subjecting him to a repeated assault, leaving him unconscious on the ground.
Zimmer, 19, of Perth Road in Gosport, threw the toppling punch.
CCTV footage showed Sanderson, in Halloween fancy dress, punching and kicking the victim, and Dollery kicking his head “like a football”.
Mr Neuenschwander had two metal plates inserted into his jaw but his face later became swollen after an infection and he had to have another operation this year to remove one of the plates.
He said the attack had shaken his confidence and “changed his life forever”.
Police Constable Chris Maidment of Bournemouth Police said: “This was a terrible assault and one of the most violent that I have seen in my career.
“It was an assault on an innocent man which has had profound effect on his life.
“A thorough police investigation has led to conviction and sentence of these offenders.
“I would like to reassure the public that Bournemouth is a safe place and the rarity of this type of incident makes it all the more shocking.”
Just last week, Dorset Police revealed that a shocking 929 violent crimes took place in Bournemouth town centre in 2011.
Sanderson, of Commercial Road, and Dollery, from Portsmouth, were sentenced last month.
