Rockley Point

This is a small sandy beach with only 150 metres of beachfront. There are great views of the harbour and the Purbecks and nearby is Ham Common nature reserve.

Where is it? At Hamworthy, near Poole, off Napier Road

Best Features: Has received the Environmental Campaign Seaside Award for a rural beach since 2001.

Local facilities and shops: Through Rockley Park holiday centre which includes Rockley Watersports for windsurfing and sailing and the Hobie Cat Centre. Has a small beach shop.

Great for the kids? Shallow water makes it great for paddling and water quality is excellent. Swimming is possible at high tide but is not encouraged. It is forbidden from the slipway at all times due to strong tidal currents.

How far are the loos? There are toilets for men and women in the adjacent boatyard.

Parking: Pay parking for approximately 30 cars down a steep slope. Gets busy.

Public transport: Wilts and Dorset bus service 152 approximately every hour Monday to Saturday until September.

How about pets? Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round.
