NEW Terras’ recruit Charlie Davis insists he does not regret kissing the Dorchester Town club badge on the opening day of last season, but it admits it will “come back to haunt me” as a Weymouth player next term.

Davis, who switched to the Avenue from Poole Town in the summer of 2015, scored on his first league appearance under boss Mark Jermyn in a 3-0 win over Histon on August 9 last year.

Reacting to the goal, the former AFC Bournemouth youngster celebrated by showing his affection to the Magpies’ crest – the arch rivals of his new club, after sealing a move to Weymouth last week.

Asked by Echosport if he regretted that action, Davis replied: “No, I don’t regret it. I don’t have regrets in football too much – it’s a sport that I enjoy playing.

“I was very happy at Dorchester last season and it was probably one of the most enjoyable seasons I have ever had in football.”

He added: “I probably got a bit carried away, it was my first goal for the club and I had been quite exiled at Poole in terms of how little football I had played.

“To get back starting on the first game of the new season for a new club that really wanted me to be there, and scoring my first goal, it was just a bit of emotion really.

“People have done sillier things in football but I’m sure it will come back to haunt me at some point this season!”
