BRIDPORT boss Adam Fricker felt his side is coming together after they battled to a 2-1 victory over South West Peninsula League Division One East outfit Alphington at St Mary’s Field.

Ed Butcher netted a brace for the hosts in Fricker’s first victory in charge of the hosts.

There was also good news off the pitch for the Bees as they announced the signing of Sherborne Town pair Adam Barrett and Chris Hastings, who both got minutes in the win.

Speaking about the display, Fricker told Echopsort: “It was tough for the lads in the really hot conditions but we were happy with the lads getting the minutes.

“I wouldn’t say it was a great performance, but we were hard to break down and we were a threat going forward, so, all in all, a decent run-out.

A player who impressed the boss was 17-year-old Tom Blair. The attacker had interest from Dorchester Town early in the off season but seems settled at Bridport and the manager was impressed with the teenager, who played 90 minutes.

Fricker added: “He put in a good display and if he keeps doing what he’s been doing in pre-season so far, keep listening, then without a doubt he will feature in the side.

“He will be missing for the first few games because he is suspended after being sent off in a reserve game. We have to remember he is just 17, so we will have to pick and choose the right time for him to step in.”

Speaking about his new signings from Sherborne, Fricker remarked: “They’re both Western League players. Adam is excellent on the ball and he can give us that quality.

“Chris is a strong centre half and he can weigh in with a few goals.

“The squad is taking shape.”
