TOP Dorset side Weymouth Wizards are set to dust off their boots and hold a reunion for their players and staff – 40 years after playing youth football together.

Gerry Davey, who now lives in Edinburgh, played for the

under-11s side in their heyday and has tracked down most of the playing squad, as well as the coaching staff of the former youth team.

The event is set to be held at the swimming pool end of the Marsh – where all of them started playing as part of the team – on Saturday, August 27 (10.30am).

Speaking ahead of seeing all of those familiar faces, Davey told Echosport: “Many years ago I was one of the first players to sign for the Weymouth Wizards’ youth team and I have managed to get in touch with all bar two of the side.

“They are all coming down on the August Bank Holiday weekend to have one more training session and a kickabout, where it all began 40 years ago.”

He added: “A few have to travel. I have to come from Edinburgh, but it’s worth it.

“I think there will be a good dozen of us, including the manager and the founder.

“I grew up with a lot of these lads and I am still mates with them now.

“I have told them not to be late. You can’t be late for training! And we will probably go for a drink afterwards.”
