EAST COWES VICTORIA 1

WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2

SECOND-HALF goals from Conor Jevon and Craig Michie meant Weymouth’s lengthy trip to the Isle of Wight was a worthwhile one, with a win over East Cowes Victoria.

The victory, Weymouth’s first league success of the season, helped Bradley Asagba’s side to four points from as many games so far this term.

And, although it was not a journey which he found too pleasant, the Terras’ boss was happy to come away from a lengthy day at the office with three points.

Asagba, whose side battled the elements to get to Beatrice Avenue at the weekend, told Echosport: “I am not good on boats as it is!

“It was delayed because of the choppy conditions.

“You wouldn’t want to be going there on a Tuesday night in December, that’s for certain!”

Once they eventually got to the ground, the visitors started slowly and East Cowes took an early lead through Harley Turner.

But that seemed to spur the away side into action.

Despite missing a second-half penalty while still trailing 1-0, Jevon and Michie delivered the goods to turn the game on its head and seal the victory.

Asagba said: “We had around 22 attempts but still didn’t play very well.

“But the challenge was to get three points however they came about. We have done that so, irrespective of the performance, we can take them and get back on the training ground.

“Given our form going into the game it was just a case of getting the job done and we have done it.”

He added: “For the lads coming from Weymouth, they had to leave before 9am, so it was a long trip. It was something they would have probably not been used to.

“Thankfully now, with this one, we have got two of the longest trips out of the way.”
