ADAM Fricker feels his new signing Elliot Mann can add some much needed Western League experience as Bridport look to get their season back on track.

Mann – signing from Sherborne – is set to put pen to paper tonight at the club’s training session and will add some more firepower in attacking areas for the Bees.

Last season, Mann scored 13 times in the league in 37 appearances for the Zebras, but has struggled to make an impact this season in a side that sits bottom of the league, scoring three goals in 10 appearances.

Speaking about his new addition, Fricker said: “He’s a young striker that’s very pacey and can play on the wing and off the striker.

“He did well in his first Western League season last year. He works hard and he’s got a cracking attitude.

“He hasn’t played a lot of football for their first team this season but he will be an asset to us. We want him to get some more match fitness under his belt so hopefully he will play for our reserves on Saturday (against Parley Sports) and we will go from there.”

Mann will help reinforce a frontline that has struggled to score goals this season. The Bees are averaging just 1.3 goals a game with Mark Salter scoring nearly half of their overall goals with six strikes.

Asked whether he will have a different approach with another striker on the scene, Fricker replied: “In certain games we play one up front, but we like to get our wingers forward.

“We favour a 4-5-1, but we can explore different formations. We’re not set in stone.”

Fricker is also hopeful of bringing in a couple more additions to strengthen his youthful side.

He added: “If we get them, they’ll bring in experience. They’ve played Western League football so they have that in abundance.

“If we can get them both then I will be delighted. It gives some of the younger lads a person to turn to on the pitch.

“Some of them have played more football than we wanted them too due to injuries and it takes some pressure off of them.

“If we can pull off the signings then it adds some depth to the squad.

“We want to support players like Mark and Ryan Hayter, who is coming back from injury, and hopefully we can start to look more solid over the next couple of weeks.”

The new players, if signed, have plenty of time to bed in before Bridport’s next game. Due to Cadbury Heath’s FA Cup run, the Bees are without a fixture this weekend and will have to wait until Saturday, October 8 when they will take on Hallen – one of the few sides that sit below them in the table.
