BAFFINS MILTON ROVERS 4

WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1

WEYMOUTH Reserves were made to rue costly mistakes as they lost 4-1 to high-flying Baffins Milton Rovers for the second time this season.

Ryan Pennery netted a second-half hat-trick for the visitors after George Thomas had scored from the spot at the end of the first half.

Gareth Will scored Weymouth’s only goal after Edgar Zanin had missed from the spot.

The sides met last month at the Bob Lucas Stadium and Saturday’s result was exactly the same as that defeat for the Terras.

It was a healthy start for the away side as they neared half-time without conceding, however, Thomas netted from the spot in first-half stoppage time.

The second half started in the same vein as the hosts extended their lead in the 52nd minute.

Tyler Moret slid in Pennery, who made no mistake with a composed finish.

The Terras were given a lifeline in the 65th minute when they won a penalty.

Zanin’s spot-kick was saved but Will was on had to halve the deficit.

However, the hosts were back on top thanks to Pennery, who made it 3-1 with 10 minutes to go before sealing his hat-trick in scintillating fashion.

He slipped past four Weymouth defenders before slotting home past Ashley Weeks – fresh in on loan from Portland United – to send the Terras home empty-handed.

Speaking to Echosport after the game, manager Bradley Asagba said: “They are one of the best teams in the league and it was a similar game to the one we played six weeks ago.

“We dominated large parts of the game and created plenty of chances but couldn’t put them away.

“We offered them chances and they were clinical.”

Weeks and Luke King – recently signed from Bridport – made their first starts for the club and Asagba was impressed with defender King.

“He’s a brilliant acquisition. He’s the right age and has all the right attributes,” he explained.

“He was one of the bright spots for us.”

Speaking about the rest of his squad, Asagba added: “We’re at the point now, to be frank, where we are almost in a relegation battle.

“The players have had long enough to change the results. They haven’t, so we will be looking at bringing in players that can change our fortunes.”
