WHILE stressing “there will be no quarter given” during Boxing Day’s Ridgeway derby, Weymouth boss Jason Matthews outlined his respect for departing Magpies’ manager Mark Jermyn.

Matthews, a former team-mate of Jermyn’s at the Avenue, is eager to scupper any plans the county town player-manager has of ending his tenure in charge with a win, when Weymouth and Dorchester Town do battle at the Avenue on Monday (3pm).

But speaking to Echosport ahead of the encounter, Matthews admitted he had admiration for the job Jermyn has done during his time as Dorchester manager.

Asked about the situation at the Avenue, Matthews told Echosport: “I haven’t looked too much on what they are doing but I feel Jem has done a fantastic job there.

“He turned them from, what would have been a relegation side, into a very competitive team.

“I wish him all the best for the future.”

He added: “I have a lot of time for Jem but there will be no quarter given on Monday.”
