CHARITY fundraisers, sports coaches and skate park volunteers are among the people who have enjoyed a VIP day out at the football this season, as part of the Terras’ Community Thank You scheme.

The scheme was set up at Weymouth Football Club to pay tribute to the groups of people who go that extra mile to help others in the local area.

Weymouth FC general manager Liz Bell said: “The Terras’ Community Thank You has been a great success so far and it has been lovely to welcome some incredible people to the club.

“It has been quite humbling to hear some of their stories.

“This has given us the opportunity to give something back to the people who work so hard for others.”

The club recently welcomed the Lexi May Trust, a charity set up by the family of Lexi May Hopkin, who died aged seven last January of a brain tumour.

They help support other children in Dorset with terminal or life-limiting conditions, through special days out. Lexi’s sister Mea and her three friends recently ran out as the Terras’ mascots.

Before that, the club welcomed Shelley Robertson, who works tirelessly to raise money and awareness for the national, charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which provides support for children who have lost parents in the forces.

Shelley was pregnant with her daughter Lily in August 2011 when her boyfriend James Wright was killed at the age of 22, serving with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan.

Lily is now five years old and had a fantastic evening as the Terras’ mascot, running out on to the pitch with her favourite player, Stephane Zubar, and presenting Stuart Fleetwood with his man of the match trophy after the game.

Also attending as the Terras’ guests were Shelley’s parent and James’ mum and dad.

Other recipients of the Terras’ Community Thank You have been volunteers from The Front Skatepark and coaches from Weymouth Cricket Club.
