DORCHESTER Town manager Craig Laird has spoken of his plans to bring in an integral member to his managerial staff.

The Magpies’ boss has been looking in recent weeks and is hoping to have something secured in the coming days.

He said: “I was talking to the chap I want to bring in and hopefully that can be sorted by next weekend.

“If that gets the go ahead I can say he’s our man.

“I can’t say any more because he’s trying to sort stuff out with his club.”

Laird also spoke of his relationship with first-team coach Stuart Heath and reserve team boss Rich Robson, who he says have both made a positive impression on him since he arrived at the club.

He said: “Stuart’s a good guy and I’ve been really impressed with him.

“We’ll be working together until the end of the season and then we’ll have a proper sit down and have a chat on how we see things moving forward.

“He might not like the things I want to introduce, and I might not like what he wants to introduce, so it gives us both a chance to have that conversation.

“But at the moment he’s doing a good job. He’s a good guy and he’s working hard for the club.”

Laird added: “Rich is an ambitious individual and I’m sure he’d want to go on and become manager of Dorchester Town at some point. Hopefully that’s his ambition because that’s the sort of person we want at the club.

“I’m not sure if he’d want to come up (to join the senior set-up) or whether he’s happy in the reserves where he can cut his teeth. We’ll speak to him in time to give him the choice but sometimes it’s better to stay, where you are where he can have a better learning curve by managing his own team.

“He speaks to me a lot, and our relationship is developing and he’s always welcome to come and join us on the bench to see how we run it.

“I’ll give him all the experience and knowledge that I can.”

Laird also confirmed the club would be looking to bring in one or two more signings before the weekend, with a striker said to be high up on the list of priorities.

The Magpies are set to make the trip to promotion-chasing Leamington tomorrow (3pm).
