DORCHESTER Town manager Craig Laird insists that last week’s victory is worth nothing if they don’t follow it up this week against Slough Town (3pm).

The Magpies picked up their first league win since December 3 against Dunstable Town in a spirited performance, but Laird is keen to keep the result in perspective.

He said: “The win lifted everyone at the club, including the players and the fans, but it’s only one result.

“We need to try and get a positive result this week and then that win will have been well worth it.”

Saturday’s opponents Slough have recently regrouped after a disappointing January in which they lost five of their six games, but the Magpies’ boss has brushed off the claims that his side are in for a tough match.

He said: “I’m always positive going into a game and we’ve had some really tough matches recently. Whatever position you are in the league you will find it tough to play the top five or six sides one after the other.

“That kind of run is a tough ask regardless of where you are in the league, and especially with a depleted squad.

“But I think the players have done brilliantly and have given me absolutely everything and we’ll look to build on that.”

After the decision to give his players a much needed night off from training midweek, Laird travelled to watch Slough’s defeat to bottom of the table Cinderford Town, and insists that despite their form they are a big threat.

He said: “Slough are a good side, I know they’re having a tough time at the moment but they’re a good team with good players. They’re fit and mobile and they’re well drilled at set-pieces and in free play so they’re a good team.

“For one reason or another luck has gone against them but they’ll look to address that in the next couple of weeks, starting against us.

“We’ll set ourselves up very much how we did on Saturday. If we keep ourselves organised we can hopefully get something from the game.”

Laird also confirmed that his only absentees this week are the injury Gary Bowles and the suspended Neil Martin, while also indicating he hopes to have one or two new additions before Saturday’s game.
