DORCHESTER Town chairman Matt Lucas has said he is willing to discuss the prospect of external investment if it has the club’s best interests in mind.

Speaking exclusively to Echosport, the chairman emphasised that while he is not stepping away from the club, he is more than happy to consider any ideas or suggestions that could take the club forward.

He said: “There’s no secret that we at the club want to be as competitive as we possibly can, and ultimately at the beginning of next season we want to give Craig Laird as much support as we can.

“I would be very happy that if someone wanted to come forward and take the club further than I personally can, then I’d be the happiest person around to allow the person to come in and do that.

“As a chairman, I’m very aware of what I can bring to the club, and hopefully I’ve done a fair bit of that in the three years that I’ve been the chairman, but also I’m aware that the club has to come first.

“If there is anybody, or a group who would like to come forward to talk to us then we’d be all ears if it’s to the benefit of Dorchester Town Football Club.

“I’d like to think that most people know we are a debt-free club. We obviously live within our means and it’s been well documented about the Section 106 grant for the installation of the 3G pitch, so there are exciting things which the club are looking to take on and improve in the future.

“I would be very happy to step down as chairman if there was someone out there who could take the club forward in a way that I physically and personally can’t do.

“I’ll always be connected with the club because I love the club. But as chairman it’s always important that people outside the club are aware that if they see something that they might want to get themselves into then we as a club have to be receptive.

“I won’t be looking to step away from the club, and I’d be very keen to consider staying on the board, but I feel it’s right that people know they can come forward with any ideas or suggestions.”
