BUDMOUTH 3 ST OSMUND’S 1

THERE was an intense battle for the Year Seven Schools’ Area Cup final as Budmouth triumphed against Dorchester's St Osmund’s at the Avenue.

The first half was a hard struggle with the Dorchester school having the better of the opportunities.

However just seven minutes before half-time, the referee allowed a timely advantage as a Budmouth centre midfielder struck a brilliant 20-yard rocket which found the bottom right hand corner to put his side ahead.

The second half started brightly for the Weymouth school as St Osmund’s played mainly on the counter.

However, the flow of the game kept changing and, after an accurate ball from Budmouth caught St Osmund's on the counter from their corner, the ball made its way into a striker, where after hitting the post, he tapped home for 2-0.

Although the scoreline was a nice buffer, both sides were looking dangerous and sharing possession equally.

With 15 minutes to play, a beautifully floated corner from Budmouth’s first goal scorer made its way through the box and was fiercely attacked and powered home to make it three.

Even though the game now looked decided, St Osmund’s continued to battle and work hand until the end and their endeavours were finally rewarded with a consolation goal with five minutes to play.
