BALTI Sports boss Marco Nott has confirmed the appearance of “the magic man” Paul Merson at their end-of-season awards ceremony next month.

Merson, who played for clubs including Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, is set to appear at the Nothe Tavern in Weymouth on Saturday, May 20 as part of the club’s celebrations for finishing second in the Dorset Premier League this season.

Speaking of the evening, Nott said: “It’s brilliant. There’s been a lot of hard work by myself, Steve Coombes, and Emma and Richard from the Nothe Tavern.

“We wanted to do something special because we’ve had a good season and it’ll be nice to end it on a special note.

“We did something with Graham Gooch a couple of weeks ago, and Richard has contacts with Paul’s agent so we managed to get the event up on May 20 and I’m sure it’ll be a special occasion.”

Merson is set to do VIP one-to-one with the players and hand out the awards, before going to go into the Tavern for a two-course meal before getting up to tell some stories for those in attendance, and Nott says his team are excited.

He said: “The lads are buzzing, I only told the team on Saturday. I’ve been holding it in for about five weeks! The team mean a lot to me and we wanted to give something back to them for such a good season.

“There’s definitely reason to celebrate, and there’s no better way to do it than having someone like Paul Merson come down, and we’re all very excited about it.”

Tickets for the event cost £40 and includes a two-course meal.
