RESPECTIVE Bridport and Portland United managers Adam Fricker and Simon Browne were happy with the run-outs their teams got at St Mary’s Field on Tuesday night.

Portland were 3-1 victors on the night, with goals from Dorchester trialist Leighton Thomas, Alex Halloran and Josh Camp, while Bridport’s Cameron Vere also got on the scoresheet.

And Browne was grateful for a further opportunity to sharpen up his side ahead of the new season.

He told Echosport: “On the whole I was quite pleased with what we’ve done. The first half we played some good football but the second half was a little bit bitty because of changes.

“We’re getting the rustiness out of our system. The lads played better last night than we did on Saturday and we looked quite comfortable for long periods.

“I felt for Jordan (Tewkesbury). He’s on trial with us and I don’t think he had a lot to do. I think I could probably have played in goal and not disgraced myself, but second half Bridport got back into it a bit more.”

Fricker said the fixture was “really beneficial” for his team against higher-league opponents Portland.

“We didn’t start too great, we were a little bit sluggish and stiff from Saturday. For us, it’s really beneficial and match fitness is getting there.

“We’re where we expected to be after a couple of weeks. We’re trying to encourage them to play football, we want to play an attacking style and get that ball down and move it as quick as we can,” he said.

n Dorchester Town Reserves drew 1-1 with Dorchester Sports at the Avenue Stadium last night. Jamie Rawlings scored for the Magpies before a late equaliser from Jamie Symes.
