PORTLAND United have signed Wimborne Town forward Robinson Okumu on dual-registration terms until the end of the season.

Okumu, 19, has a background in track and field, most notably in the sprint events, and competed in the Gateshead City Games, shown live on the BBC, last year.

The sprinter is also a member of Dorchester Athletics Club.

Blues’ boss Gary Bailey labelled the talented speedster as an “exciting prospect” having completed the deal after correspondence with Magpies’ manager Matty Holmes.

Bailey told Echosport: “We’ve secured the services of Robinson from Wimborne. He’s been on the fringes of things up there and he’s not had too much of a look in.

“We spoke to Matty and were keen to get him on board. We’ve got an agreement that we’ll have Robinson until the end of the season. He’s all signed up and ready to go.

“He’s still learning his trade and has got a little way to go but he’s an exciting prospect – Matty spoke highly of him.

“It could be a good time to come in. We’re a little bit short so it’s a good fit for both clubs. We thank Matty and Wimborne for allowing it to happen.”

Okumu is set to go straight into the Blues’ squad for the trip to Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division leaders Andover Town on Saturday (3pm).
