BRIDPORT will resume their busy fixture schedule tonight as they host bottom side Wells City in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division (7.45pm).

After seeing their home game against Bitton become the latest addition to a heap of postponed games, Bridport will aim to back up their 4-0 win over Chipping Sodbury Town by beating lowly City.

But Bees’ boss Adam Fricker is extremely wary of the fixture, with Wells only in bottom place thanks to a four-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player.

He told Echosport: “I stressed to the lads that these games are the toughest because you can’t allow complacency to set in.

“Just because they’re down in the league it doesn’t make them a poor side. We have to be on our game, fully focused, and the lads are playing for a place in the starting XI in the cup (on Saturday).

“I expect them to be giving 110 per cent and to take nothing for granted.”

Despite suffering another postponement, Fricker is keen to keep the momentum from the Bees’ previous league game.

“The performance against Chipping Sodbury was great. We’re really pleased with it. It was a shame we couldn’t build on it, but it’s a similar sort of game.

“We need to get three points on the board and keep ourselves in good shape for Saturday,” he said.

Commenting on yesterday’s decision by the FA to grant a one-week extension to the league season, Fricker feels it is a “sensible” outcome.

He said: “I get that it’s very difficult because they’re governed by the FA. It’s a sensible decision to make. An extra week does allow you to play another two games.

“I think for a lot of the other clubs it will certainly help them. The only issue I’ve got is that I’m getting married the week after!

“It will definitely help us but my biggest concern is that we’re still in the cup. We’ll focus all our efforts on that. You want to finish as well as you can but our main aim is to go and win the cup.

“My team selections will be based around when those games are.”

Bridport are expected to be without two players for the Wells game, but welcome back Matt Condliffe after a recent absence.

He said: “Ed Butcher will be missing, he’s away with work and the same with Alan Hill. Other than that we’re at full strength.

“We’ve got a squad of about 18 players and we’re going to need that squad over the next couple of weeks.

“The hardest part for me and Paddy (Behan, assistant-manager) is how we move the squad around each individual game.”
