WEYMOUTH Sunday League champions Dolphin suffered penalty shoot-out heartbreak against John Gregory in the final of the Les Hallett Cup.

The Dolphin, looking to seal a league and cup double, lost out after an exhausting encounter against the John Gregory and, after an evenly matched 90 minutes, the score remained 0-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

After 30 minutes of extra time, the score ended 1-1 after Danny Andrews netted for Dolphin and Mike Stone scored for the Gregory. Penalties ensued and, after a few heroic saves from John Gregory keeper Neil Innes, his side lifted the cup.

In the Len Mahoney Cup final, the Famous Old Spa overcame the Market House 1-0 after Dean Taylor scored the all-important goal.

After a hard-fought showpiece, the man of the match award went to Market House keeper Antony Frost.

A spokesman said: “The Weymouth Sunday League committee would like to thank everyone at the Bob Lucas Stadium for letting us play the cup games there and also we would like to thank all the players and supporters.”
