BRIDPORT brought an end to a long season with a 2-0 victory over Odd Down that saw the Bees finish seventh in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

The hosts were 2-0 and a man up at half-time thanks to a goal from Oscar Latas and a superb free-kick from Andy Martin, while Odd Down’s Luke Hall-Cousins was sent off.

Oscar Latas opened the scoring after a through ball from Kameron Andrews created the away side were attempting to clear a scramble in the box and the ball fell to Latas 10 yards out who fired it into the top corner.

In the 35th minute, a ball over the top from Matt Condliffe allowed Richard Hebditch to run clean through on goal but he was fouled on the edge of the box.

As a result, Hall-Cousins was sent off and Martin duly drilled in a superb free-kick.

Ed Butcher went through on goal on the stroke of half-time but a heavy touch saw the goalkeeper smother the ball.

In the second-half Butcher had three further chances from 25-yards out, while Mark Salter also went close. Leighton Thomas also got through but the Odd Down goalkeeper saved at his feet.

Bridport had further chances in the one-sided match but could not kill the game but were able to sign off with victory.

Bees’ manager Adam Fricker said: “We are delighted to finish the season and finish it in seventh.”

“We have known for three or four months that with our games in hand we could be up and around in those positions obviously it is about putting those games into points and we are delighted with the season.”

“The lads have just played 11 games in 23 days, the last three weeks they have played every other day basically and it has been really hard on them and it just goes to show their character and the quality of players that we have currently got at the football club.

“I could not have asked any more of them.”
