ENGLAND have made it through to the final of the Veterans World Cup with a 3-0 win against Iran in Thailand.

Former Weymouth midfielder Lee Elam played but Dorchester Town boss Steve Thompson was not in the starting line-up for the win that earns England a place in the final against Scotland.

England made the perfect start with Barry Hayles firing in very early on.

Iran threatened with a central free-kick but it was fired straight at England goalkeeper and Yeovil Town goalkeeping coach Steve Phillips.

However, it would be England that gave themselves a cushion as four minutes later, Stephen Jones fired them further into the lead.

Iran made changes to try and force their way back into the game.

However, shortly into the second half they were down to 10 men when a player was sent off for a foul on goalscorer Hayles, who was subsequently substituted for Jason Price.

Moments after a water break, Peter Beagrie all but wrapped up the match with a superb shot to make it 3-0 to England. With four minutes to go, Rod Thornley made certain of the victory with another goal for the Three Lions to put them four ahead.

England now face Scotland in the final today (12pm GMT) in a bid to win their third consecutive title at the competition.
