DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson featured as England swatted aside Scotland 4-0 to win the Veterans' World Cup for the third consecutive time.

Goals from former Weymouth midfielder Lee Elam, Mark Saunders, Jason Price and Steve Jones sealed the eventually comfortable victory in Thailand.

Thompson came on for captain Peter Beagrie after 31 minutes, four minutes after Saunders had risen to nod home to hand England a first half lead.

Thompson was then later replaced by Dave Galloway with 10 minutes remaining.

Scotland had threatened when a free-kick saw the ball get into the England box but Alex Russell was on hand to clear it away.

England threatened through Jones three minutes after their first goal, as he provoked a superb save from the Scotland goalkeeper.

Scotland fired over the bar with five minutes remaining but England kept their lead into half-time.

Following the break Jones again threatened, as he got in behind the Scotland defence and forced another good save from their goalkeeper.

Scotland responded and put England under pressure but soon after Elam cut back for Price for England to double their lead.

Three minutes later Elam scored a fantastic effort, before Jones’ efforts were rewarded with a goal to put England 4-0 up and cruising to victory.

England then saw out the victory and their third consecutive World Cup success.
