UPWEY & Broadwey are being revived after an absence of nearly four years, with Weymouth A rebranding and moving grounds.

The move sees the end of the partnership between Weymouth and the A side and the side will remain in Division One of the Dorset League.

The club will be managed by Steve Reynolds, who ran the Weymouth A side and formerly managed Upwey & Broadwey for 25 years.

Reynolds said: “It is basically a whole new set up but with the same playing staff as Weymouth Colts were.

“The old club over the years we won so much and hopefully, with the youngsters who have improved so much in the last few years, we can go on and win stuff again.”

Upwey has twice been disbanded previously, with the first time coming in 1997 which lasted for nine years before being revived by Reynolds.

This lasted for eight years before the club were disbanded once again in 2014, when they played in the Dorset Senior League.

When asked if there was any sense of pride to being able to revive the club, Reynolds said: “Oh my word yes.

“Upwey is where I have lived all of my life, for me it means a hell of a lot and to the people around the village.

“They have had no football club for a few years and there was always a lot of interest in the side.

“I am very proud to have Upwey & Broadwey back on the map.

“We are looking forward to the restart, maybe we can attract one or two of the older Upwey & Broadwey players from four years ago back to us.”

The club will be based at the Royal Standard pub in Upwey and Stuart Walden will be the assistant manager while Graham Cole will be the chairman of the newly revived side.

New sponsors have been drafted in from businessman who all live in the village.

The Royal Standard pub is one of the sponsors, alongside Jason House from Build Right ltd, Cornerstone Lettings. The league and cup entries are being paid for by Darwin Holdings and other sponsors include Paul Ryan from Loose Moose.
