BRIDPORT boss Adam Fricker conceded his side ‘were not at the races’ as he saw them succumb to a 1-0 defeat at home to Brislington in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

Oaklan Buck’s 48th minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides on a sodden afternoon at St Mary’s Field.

Fricker said: “I am obviously frustrated but I think we weren’t really at the races, to be fair.

“We missed a hat-full of chances in the first half and the simple matter of fact is that if you don’t take your chances you don’t win games.”

The Bees missed a golden chance at the end of the first half when Mark Salter missed a penalty after Oscar Latas was fouled inside the box.

Fricker said: “We were a little bit too predictable, it is just frustrating because I know that the lads can play a lot better but unfortunately we did not show that and Brislington go home with the points.

“I think sometimes you just think it is not your day, when we miss the chances that we missed in the first half, had the possession we had in the second half, I just think it was one of those days.

“We could stay out there all night and we just would not hit the back of the net today (speaking on Saturday) unfortunately. We have got a quick turnaround, we go again on Wednesday night in the Les Phillips Cup and hopefully we can go out and put it right then.”

When asked about the heated nature of the match, which saw both sides’ technical area spoken to about their language towards the officials, Fricker did not comment.

When asked about the positives of the match, which saw great performances from Oscar Latas and Leighton Thomas, while Kameron Andrews was named man of the match, Fricker admitted the most frustrating aspect is that he knows they can play better.

Fricker said: “I think the biggest frustration is that the lads are better than what they showed as a team.

“There were some half decent individual performances in bits and at the start of the game but not enough consistency throughout the game.

“We just did not do the right things at the right times.

“They had their chance and they took it and it was always going to be difficult to break them down after that.”

The match was played in a downpour on a gloomy afternoon and Fricker admitted it affected the match but refused to let it be an excuse for their performance.

Fricker said: “It played its part, but that is by no means an excuse from our part.

“I think we were sloppy and sluggish and we as a team would have expected more than what we got today.”

Bridport face a quick turnaround before their next match in just two days time.

The Bees are set to host Bristol Telephones in the preliminary round of the Les Phillips Cup on Wednesday night (7.45pm).
