PORTLAND United’s scheduled match tomorrow night against Hamworthy United has been postponed due to the Hammers’ goalkeeping coach Ben Scott suffering a cardiac arrest.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the club said that after the cardiac arrest he was sedated to allow his body to recover, but he did not wake up after the sedation was stopped and is currently on life-support at the time of going to press.

The Blues had been scheduled to face the Hammers this evening but the fixture will be rearranged, as Portland boss Brendon King said it put the game into perspective.

King, who worked with Scott last year when Hamworthy manager, said: “Some things are more important than football.

“Our thoughts go out to Ben and his family and friends from all of us at Portland United Football Club and Hamworthy United.

“Me and Reggie (Mark Carter, Portland assistant-manager) had the pleasure of working with him last year.

“It is an awful situation.”

“Ben is a fantastic bloke, he loves his football, he loves his coaching.

“We worked with him last season and it is a sad, sad situation.”

In light of the news, messages of support have come in from Dorset clubs, including Portland United and Weymouth and Hamworthy have thanked the non-League community for their support.
