WAREHAM chopper Tom Redmond represented Great Britain during Friday’s STIHL Timbersports World Championship.

Taking place in Stuttgart, Germany, Great Britain finished 14th in a field of 19 nations.

Redmond, 38, was part of a six-man squad, which included British champion Glen Penlington.

GB posted a time of 1:23.84 in the time trail, placing 16th.

That meant they had to face Hungary to continue in the competition.

They were successful, easing through with a time of 1:09.76.

But that proved to be the end of their competition as they fell eight seconds short of Czech Republic at the last 16 stage.

Australia went on to win the final, for an unprecedented fourth year in succession.

The podium was filled by USA and Canada, in front of a raucous sold out 6,500-strong crowd at the Porsche Arena.

The team competition saw nations battle it out across four of the six disciplines – stock saw, single buck, underhand chop, standing block chop.

Redmond, who lives in Bere Regis, works as a building inspector for Poole-based MC Plan & Site Services.

STIHL themselves describe Timbersports as “the most exciting sport you’ve never heard of”, before going on to label it the “original extreme sport”.
